What is Tenugui?
Tenugui(te=hands, nugui =wipe) are Japanese cotton towels. These towels are not only for wiping your hands but also have a number of traditional uses and applications. As far back as the ancient Kofun Era (250 - 538 AD), a clay figurine called haniwa was found with a tenugui wrapped around its head. Tenugui has as many uses as your imagination. There are several ways of using this simple cloth to bring a unique part of traditional Japanese culture into your life

How was my tenugui made?
Our Tenugui is 100% cotton, and was individually hand made in Japan by traditionally trained craftsmen. Therefore, each Tenugui is uniquely different, varying in both size and color from other Tenugui. Tenugui was dyed using a special method, and the colors will fade after washing. Since Tenugui was cut individually by hand, you will find that the ends of each side may be imperfect. Because they are no folding hems, Tenugui dry equally from top to bottom, based on Japanese traditional technique. As you continue to wash and use your Tenugui, you will see the quality of color and touch improved, like your own vintage Tenugui.

How to wash my tenugui?
For best results, please wash by hand in cold water with a washing product that does not contain bleach or a bleaching agent, and wash separate some other garments or fabric. Do not tumble dry; hang dry in the shade. Tenugui dries faster than other kind of towels because of their unique processing. If you need to, a warm iron can be used.

Enjoy one-of-kind Tenugui as a part of your daily life!
